I have a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from University of Texas at Austin and received my Montessori AMI Primary Diploma from the Montessori Institute of Atlanta in 1973.

My Mom was an elementary school teacher in a private school in Austin and later had her own Montessori school. I always knew that I wanted to be a teacher. Sister Edna Ann Hebert, one of the foundresses of St. Catherine’s Montessori School was a frequent visitor of my mother and guided me towards Montessori education.

I have been fortunate during my Montessori teaching career to have worked at excellent AMI Montessori schools in Houston. I always heard about the uniqueness of Northwood Montessori and knew I wanted to be a part of it. When I heard, at the end of 1999 that a new primary classroom was to be added I immediately applied. The rest is history!

After teaching in the classroom for several years, I was given the opportunity at Northwood Montessori School to assume administrative responsibilities with a colleague Dolores Vazquez while continuing my work as a guide in the classroom.

Both of our daughters attended Montessori school at the primary level. They are now young adults, living in Houston, and their children are now happily enjoying their own Montessori experience.

My favorite activity in my free time is spending time with my three young grandchildren. It is a privilege to see each of them develop with a joy for learning and life rooted in their Montessori experience.

One of my favorite quotes from Maria Montessori is:

Education is a natural process carried out by the child

and is not acquired by listening to words

but by experiences in the environment.
